Forres Sandle Manor School is a coeducational private independent day and boarding school for pupils aged 3 – 13. This incarnation of the school was founded in 1993 when the Forres School and the Sandle Manor School amalgamated.
This prep school is located in a 17th Century manor house in 35 acres in the Hampshire village of Sandleheath, about 2 miles west of Fordingbridge, near the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire. The school teaches approximately 250 children and prides itself on having a maximum class size of 18.
Children can board from the age of 8 and have the option of full or weekly boarding. The boarding house has space for around 90 boarders and the accommodation is of a very high standard, with children separated by age and gender.
There are always staff present at the boarding accommodation (including catering staff) and the boarders benefit from the majority of the staff at the school being involved with the boarding house in one way or another.
New boarders are particularly looked after whilst they integrate into the new way of life and they are assigned dedicated mentors from the group of senior boarders to guide and assist them with settling in.
The school has a vast range of facilities which include excellent provisions for sports. There are multiple football and rugby pitches, an all-weather astroturf, netball courts, tennis courts, sports hall and a heated swimming pool.
There are also many competitive leagues and competitions against other schools in a variety of sports.
There is also a very healthy after school calendar, with many clubs and societies, ranging from chess to waterskiing and beyond, available for the pupils to get involved in.
The admission process to Forres Sandle Manor is non-selective, so there is no entrance examination. Instead, parents are required to complete a registration form, providing relevant educational and behavioural details for the child.
Parents and children are normally invited for a tour of the school and for a meeting with the head. Potential pupils are invited for a taster day to get a feel for the school and to meet teachers and other pupils.
Children who will be boarding at the school are also invited to spend a night there to build some familiarity with their surroundings.
