Highfield School is a private independent coeducational preparatory school for day and boarding pupils aged 8 – 13. It was founded in 1907 by William Mills and remains owned by the Mills family to this day.
The school is set in 175 acres in the East Hampshire village of Liphook near the West Sussex border, about 18 miles south west of Guildford and 26 miles west of Winchester. The school teaches around 235 pupils.
Children can board at Highfield School from the age of 8 and the boarding accommodation has recently undergone a programme of major renovation resulting in excellent facilities.
The junior boarders are located in boarding house near the main school building and separated by gender.
The seniors board in the main school building, again separated by gender and have a range of facilities including common rooms and kitchen areas.
The boarding houses have a buddy system in place whereby the older children take care of the younger boarders to help them settle in and feel comfortable.
In addition, there is a medical room staffed full time by qualified nurses and catering staff providing a range of diets and cuisines.
Because of the substantial grounds surrounding Highfield School, they are able to offer excellent sporting facilities including a sports hall, indoor swimming pool, cross country course, golf course, tennis courts and a squash court as well as huge playing fields for sports such as hockey, rugby, football and lacrosse.
There are also a great range of academic facilities as well as the ‘Forest School’ which is a treehouse style classroom set in the woodland on the grounds. The school uses the woodland classroom for many activities including first aid courses and outdoor cooking lessons.

It helps to provide children and parents with information on choosing the right senior school, scholarship information and preparation for the Common Entrance Exam, which children can sit at the school when necessary.
The admissions policy for Highfield School is fairly straightforward and it allows children to join at any time, subject to space being available.
Children entering from Brookham Pre-Prep School (located on the same site) gain access automatically to Highfield. Parents of children entering from an external school are firstly required to complete an application form.
The children will then be invited to take assessments in reading, spelling and maths before being offered a place.
