Walhampton School (formerly Hordle Walhampton School) is a private independent coeducational day and boarding school located in the Hampshire hamlet of Walhampton about half a mile from Lymington.
Teaching around 330 boys and girls aged between 2 – 13, the school was founded in 1997 when Hordle House and Walhampton School merged together. The main school building is a huge old manor house and it sits within 100 acres of land.
Children are able to board at Walhampton from the age of 7, when they reach the main prep school and they have the option of full, weekly or flexi boarding.
The boarding accommodation is located within the main school building with girls and boys living on separate floors. The accommodation is very well furnished and spacious and includes excellent facilities like kitchen areas, common rooms and computers. T
here is also a busy social life attached to the boarding house, with a variety of activities, theme nights and sports going on after school and at weekends.
There is a full time qualified nurse and a resident matron on duty and a catering staff providing quality and healthy diets.
A houseparent system providing organisational and pastoral support and new boarders are very well looked after with the provision of taster nights, tea parties and mentor system to help them settle in and feel relaxed quickly.
The facilities at Walhampton are vast and wide ranging. In terms of sports, the school boasts a large modern sports hall for indoor football, cricket nets, netball, hockey, badminton, tennis and basketball.
It also has an all weather astroturf for hockey, tennis and netball as well as an outdoor swimming pool, running track and huge playing fields.
There is also an impressive equestrian centre where children can learn to ride, learn dressage, play polo and hack around the school’s wooded areas.
With 3 lakes on the grounds, children also benefit from being able to fish, sail and kayak.
A wide range of other activities are also available at the school, with things as diverse as bee-keeping to archery, martial arts and music lessons.
Walhampton is a non selective school, so there is no entry examination required before a place is offered.
Parents are encouraged to attend the annual open day or to get in contact with the Registrar to arrange a tour around the school at another time.
Children entering the nursery or pre-prep school are able to enter at any time and the main entry points for the prep school are years 3, 4 and 6.
For children entering at the prep stage, they will be invited to come and have a trial/taster day.
