Although Twyford School has been in it’s current location since 1809, various incarnations of the school actually date back to the 1600s.
Many of the buildings were originally constructed in the early 1800s and there is also a regularly used Victorian Chapel.
However despite the great sense of history, Twyford School has also undergone a range of upgrades and renovations, meaning it is well suited to the demands of a 21st Century education whilst maintaining it’s historical roots.
Located about 3 miles from Winchester, the school is made up of around 350 boys and girls aged between 3 and 13 years.
For children aged 3 – 7, there are separate nursery and pre-preparatory buildings that are located within the grounds of the school.
The prep school is located in Queen Anne’s House (the main school building) and children of both sexes are able to board from the age of 8.
Boarders are generally weekly boarders, meaning they go home at weekends and the school also operates flexi-boarding, whereby pupils can stay 1 or 2 nights per week in the school’s accommodation.
Flexi-boarding provides the opportunity for younger children to get a feel for staying at the school, prior to staying there on a weekly basis.
Team sports are very important to the school including rugby, netball, tennis, football, lacrosse and waterpolo.
The majority of pupils take music lessons and many have gone on to gain music scholarships and there is also strong emphasis on art and design. As well as the standard curricular subjects, pupils also have the opportunity to study Latin.
Twyford School is a Church of England school and is open to all faiths. It operates a house system and has a Chaplain visit 3 times per week, as well as having at least 1 qualified nurse on duty 24 hours per day.
Admissions into the nursery is subject to places being available and the school does operate a waiting list system. Admission at Year 3 requires the pupil to take an assessment to ensure suitability to the school.
Twyford School also operates a means-tested bursary scheme and further information is available via the contact details above.
