Yateley Manor School is a private independent coeducational day school for children aged 3 – 13.
Founded in 1947, the school is located in considerable grounds in the north eastern Hampshire town of Yateley, about 35 miles south west of London and 15 miles south of Reading.
The main core of the school is an old Edwardian house which has been extensively modernised over the years. The school teaches around 500 pupils.
The school consists of a nursery (housed in it’s own building with dedicated play area), Wyndams pre-prep school and the main prep school.
Pupils can leave to go onto senior school aged 11 or 13 and the school takes pride in it’s pupils being well prepared to make the next step.
A strong House system is in operation and the oldest children (in Year 8) act as monitors and prefects and provide a sense of pastoral care to the younger children.
The school has a tradition of being very strong in competitive sports including cricket, biathlon, athletics and swimming and has won competitions on a national level.
The sporting facilities are excellent and include an indoor swimming pool, large sports hall, cricket nets, a gymnasium and vast sporting pitches.
Yateley Manor also boasts a drama studio in which a range of drama and dance activities are on offer. The school has also built a national reputation for producing a strong chess team as a result of being able to offer all pupils tuition from International Master of Chess, Andrew Martin.
Yateley Manor is a non-selective school so there is no official entry examination taken in order to gain entry.
Instead, the admissions policy is simply for parents and children to come and visit the school, where they will be given a tour and have a meeting with the Head.
Parents then need to register their child, at which point the child will be invited to have a taster day at the school.
The taster day serves as a induction into the school as a way of making the child get familiar with the surroundings as soon as possible. Some informal assessments may also take place in order to get an idea of the child’s academic abilities.
Further information is available from the school’s Registrar via the contact details above.
